Colterman
Colter is getting super tricky these days. It's so crazy how kids learn how to try to create distractions or ways around doing things they're asked to do. Here are some examples.
We rarely allow screen time.. it just isn't good for Colter's behavior. However, he loves to turn on the computer. His latest thing he says to try to get some computer time is "I need to look up a recipe."
Colter is a major bread/carb man, so he always wants second helpings at dinner. We always tell him he has to finish his vegetables or meat first, so lately he'll cram it into his mouth, chew it up nice and good, and then let it roll sloooooowwwwwwly out of his mouth onto his bib. Needless to say, he hasn't been getting many second helpings lately.
The other day I was going to show him a new mighty machines dvd on diggers. I said "Hey Colter- lets check out this new video!" He responded "orrrrrrrrrrrrr watch crossings?"
Today I was trying to get him into the garage and he was trying anything to stay in there. Finally he resorted to pretending he was looking for something super important on the canned goods shelf. He kept saying "hmmm I'm just looking for something right in there."
And just because this is my major source of record keeping, here are some other tidbits I want to remember.
When we were last in Edmonds, out of the blue he said "That is the best amtrak I've ever seen!"
He is back into loving to play his guitar. He always needs a pick- or two or three and will find several different "guitars" around the house to use during his concert. He will usually have his real red guitar, his blue baseball bat, and two metal rulers. He'll put one down and say "shows over" and then will pick one right back up and say "he's picking it up!" He calls his red guitar his "rockin one."
Just recently he started stuttering only when saying the word today. When playing trains, he'll yell out "no trains ttttoday."
He is so animated when playing trains. He will quickly shout out "purple boxcar, orange tank car, yellow hopper car, blue cattle car," followed by all sorts of different stories or one liners like "we need more tracks!" or "oh no! (after tipping over all the cars) we need track repair!" or "load um up! Here are my bags!"
He is getting much more adventurous with climbing. Last week at Jessie's, I turned my back to him for a few minutes and found him standing on James' drum set. He loves to climb from the back of the couch, to the couch arm and then onto his trampoline. One day Ben and I found him standing on top of his block box, perusing our books. He has learned how to climb onto the toilet, and then onto the sink, where he will normally announce he's brushing his teeth which really means he wants to eat the Thomas toothpaste. Ben taught him how to stand on the arm of the couch and then fall backwards on to the couch. He is so serious when he gets up and says "look straight at the cabinets. Now lay down!"
He is slightly obsessed with belly buttons right now. I'm not sure really what it is all about, but we have had to talk to him about lifting up kids' shirts to look at their belly button.
One of my favorite things right now are his "tight hugs" He'll grip me so tight and in a low voice say "tighhhhht hugggg"
His drawing is so fun to watch develop. I can't believe what he is learning to do. The other day he drew a perfect house and stop light and then colored so well in the lines.
