Keeping with tradition, we filmed telling our family that we were pregnant. Unfortunately the summer visits didn't line up as well as last time to tell everyone in person, but skype is an awesome thing.
We first told my mom & the Heavilands since they were all in town the day we found out. We were playing a game of kid pictionary and were acting out animals. My mom was heading up the stairs to help with Harper, so I frantically jumped up and said "I have one!"
We next told Ben's parents by holding up Colter wearing a "Big Brother" t-shirt
Next came Aus and Kels, who reenacted their reactions from last time.. if you need a refresher, watch this first http://thecrowlfam.blogspot.com/2010/08/revealing-news.html . We told them by printing off a sign that said " I want some Nikes Uncle Aus" and taping it to my stomach... a little bit more clear this time around :)
Last we told my pops, who also makes a reference to his reaction from last time :) Unfortunately it was a little dark when we video taped, but we showed him a picture of our ultrasound.
This is one of my favorite parts to the pregnancy and even though it is the second time around, it was still just as fun!

Happy Independence day!
I am a little behind in blogging and since it is the 31st, I thought I better squeeze in my 4th of July post before it is August!
I absolutely love 4th of July in Seattle. It might be the beautiful weather during this time of year, or the hometown feeling down in Edmonds, or just the thankfulness for the country we live in. I love it!
This year Colter made his first parade debut in the Edmonds 4th of July kids parade. I decided last minute to put him in, thinking he had to ride a bike, but I realized a wagon would totally work too! I kind of went overboard, wanting to win the "best decorated wagon" prize :) Really I didn't need to do anything because our bow-tie wearing man totally stole the show.
We hosted a 4th of July party in the afternoon complete with burgers/dogs, sparklers & other random fireworks, and lots of fun.
Can't wait until next year when we have two little peanuts in the parade!

summertime.. FINALLY!
We have FINALLY hit summertime! Day after day of never ending sun. We have been so busy soaking up these long days. Here are some of our adventures!
Colter and I took a mini road trip one morning to Snoqualmie Falls and the Train Museum in Snoqualmie. This was not a sunny day.. in fact we couldn't see the falls at first, but eventually some of the mist cleared away and we took in the awesome view.
A visit to the animal farm and splash pad in Everett. Colter could not get enough of the animals!

Several trips to the zoo.. we LOVE this place!

We took a day trip to Issaquah and checked out a fish hatchery, a new park, and ate lunch at a kid friendly brewery.
Other things not pictured are several trips down to the beach, a visit to a new splash park that was AMAZING, and the greenlake milk carton derby.
We have also had a few recent fun kidless activities.
On Friday my sister hosted a waffle party. Ben and I got addicted to Belgian liege waffles after trying out a local place called melts. We figured out a great recipe and have been having fun making them at home. We made up some dough, and everyone brought toppings. It was amazing!
On Saturday we went out with a big group of our friends for an amazing night on the town. We first ate dinner at the amazing Barrio, and then headed to Centruy Ballroom for some salsa! Everyone had a blast except my feet who were very mad at me for wearing heels.

16 months
16 months has been extra sweet so far, and I wanted to document a few things that I love so much about this time in your life!
* You still absolutely LOVE the outdoors. We are usually outside a good portion of the day. You love to run down the hill on the side of our front yard to the bark pit. You think it's super funny when I throw bark in the air. You love to check the mail and will hold the key and turn it back and forth in the slot. You would drop rocks down the storm drains all day if I let you. At some point you always venture to the back yard where you usually walk underneath the deck and peek out through the stairs. When we come inside, you always shout "crack!" which means crackers, which essentially is crack for you. You almost always have a rock in your hand and it's pretty much normal to find rocks all around our house, in the car, and sometimes in your crib. You love to wander. If we go to the beach, you never stay in one spot! You'll walk up and down the beach, pick up rocks, drum on logs, point to boats, etc. Speaking of Edmonds, you always notice the water when we are still pretty far away and will squeal in delight "wa!!!" At the greenlake wading pool yesterday, you would get in the water, play with a toy, walk out of the water over to the lake path, pick up rocks, wander to the grass, go under trees, then go back to the water. CONSTANT MOVEMENT. You are a prime candidate for a child leash, but I don't think we're to that point yet- we just have to watch you like crazy because in an instant you're somewhere else.
* You really love music. Sometimes it seems like you have a song in your head because you'll randomly start bobbing your head and moving your body. The minute we get into the car you point to the radio and want to start the music. We listen to the same cd over and over (Dan Zanes house party), I need to get some more in the car. You love track #17 "Old Joe Clark." I am so used to listening to it that i've found myself playing the cd when you aren't in the car with me! If I let you watch videos all day, you would do that too. You love to watch Laurie Berkner and Caspar Babypants videos. You love to run into your room and turn on the radio.. we have to be careful though because sometimes you turn on the alarm and a couple mornings it's turned on at 5:40 in the morning.
* You absolutely LOVE books. Every day you have me take the books off the entertainment center and then proceed to page through them all. Right now in our downstairs book pile you love to find the train picture in Harry the Dirty Dog. Upstairs looks like a hazard area because you are constantly pulling books off the shelf to look at them. You will look through each and every one, before usually finding one you especially like. You'll walk up to me, turn around, and plop down in my lap to read it. I read to you before each nap and before bed, and we tend to rotate the same stack of books. You are very particular about which books to read. The minute I pick one up, you'll either push it away, or settle back into my lap to read. Your favorite books upstairs are currently: My Car, Papa Please Get Me the Moon, Astronaut, Tickle Monster, How Does a Dinosaur Say Goodnight?, Colors book, Up on Daddy's Shoulders, Nose and Toes, Old MacDonald, Farmer and the Dell, and Millions of Cats. I love reading to you and watching your reactions. In the moon book, you always say "WOW!!!!" when I open up the big full moon page. In the millions of cats, you pretend that the cat is tickling you with its whiskers, and with Nose and Toes, you always kiss the pig, laugh at the monkey, and sometimes do an elephant nose while lifting your arm like a trunk.
*You've turned into a bit of a shrieker, which definitely is not one of my favorite things, but we're working on a solution. We've taught you how to say "help please" in sign language and it's really helped. It's so cute to watch you rub your belly hard when you really want something. The other day when you were in the Edmonds children's parade for the 4th, you found your lunchbox in the wagon, and kept trying to open it. When I looked over you were staring at me rubbing your belly back and forth so hard.
* One of my favorite things is to watch you play with papa. He taught you how to make an airplane noise while flying around a plane, which is quite possibly the cutest thing ever. We also recently got out your tball set, and you have developed a quick love affair with the bat. I let you take it in the car with us a few days ago, and I looked in the back seat and you were hugging the bat going "bat bat." Your dad is working hard to teach you how to hit the ball, but you basically just bump it off which is perfect too!
* You understand pretty much everything we say, and aren't super verbal on command, but daily you randomly repeat or say words that are new. You've started to say "mine" which seems to be pretty easy to pull up in your vocab when you discover something that just has to belong to you.
* You still love animals - the zoo is one of your favorite places. It seems as though your love of dogs is fading a little bit, but you still love cats. You can make quite a few animal noises including a cat, elephant, dog, monkey, duck, and cow.
* One thing I love is that you almost always are carrying something around in your hand. Sometimes it's a little yellow school bus, sometimes it's a little shovel, or a rock,sock, or a random bike reflector. It was so hilarious because when Nana was visiting, she didn't want to make you upset by taking things away, so I would get you up from your nap and find random trinkets in your bed.
* Another favorite thing this month is that you have learned how to blow kisses. It makes my heart melt!
* One of my favorite times of day is putting you to bed at night and before your naps. You always tend to get a little silly and will try so hard to make me laugh, and you usually succeed. You love to pull up my shirt and poke my belly button. Sometimes you'll eat my hair, other times you'll give me HUGE open mouth kisses on my cheek. I usually give you "tickle kisses" which is a butterfly kiss, and it always makes you laugh.
*You've developed a love of trains recently. I think it started by watching the trains in Edmonds when we're at the beach. One time we were in Edmonds, we saw a train, and for the next 10 minutes you constantly did the more sign because you loved seeing it so much. I love your train noise. It's sort of like "chugga chugga choo choo" but it's even cuter. I need to get a video. Another major obsession is the elevator at your cousins' house. I'm not even kidding that you know the freeway exit when we are getting off. If we go the other way, you start crying, but if we pull into the parking lot, you start saying "ah" "ah" "ah"
There are just SO many fun things at this stage! I love you so much little man!
