welcome baby Kaci

Our good friends Steve & Lindsey welcomed their daughter into this world yesterday afternoon. She was 3 weeks early and was ready to come out! On Monday at group, Lindsey was having some contractions, but I think we all thought she had a little more time. Who knew that in just two days, we would be holding her.

We made a quick trip up to the hospital Wednesday night to visit. She sure is beautiful!

mmm cookies

I have probably eaten more than my year's share of cookies this past weekend!

Friday night Ben & I had Jessie & Mark over for dinner at our place. They haven't been to our place since James was about 2-3 months old because he goes to bed so early. They attempted to put him to sleep in his little pea pod and we were fairly successful. We cooked these amazing fajitas that were sooo tasty. We made some ground on our hand & foot loss, but still aren't caught up.

Saturday Ben had to go to a retreat for the Queen Anne chamber, so I got some things done around the house. We attempted to go to a pull a part place in Lynnwood to find a center console replacement for my car, but they didn't have any corollas that were my model. We spent the afternoon preparing for our evening activities. Ben made some buffalo wing chips & dipping sauce for his poker night, and I made my cookie dough for the cookie bake off Sat. night.

We had a blast Sat night hanging out with the guys and girls from our community group. Ben came in 3rd in his poker tournament, and while I did not win best chocolate chip cookie, I still had a blast laughing with the girls.. I lost my voice by the end of the night!

Here are some pics:

The night started out with Elizabeth serving a delicious dinner complete with her fancy china. We had a salad with strawberries, goat cheese and homemade dressing, and then salmon with two different kinds of marinade.

We then busted out our cookie dough and cooked away! Renae's oatmeal chocolate chip cookies took the winning prize.

I am so thankful for the wonderful friends that I have made up here.

Yesterday, Ben & I probably consumed 8-10 cookies each.. oops. We lounged around most of the day because I was feeling the start of a sickness, although I am feeling pretty well today. We watched most of the oscars and was happy that slumdog millionaire won so many awards.. mainly because we hadn't really seen any of the other movies that were nominated.

All in all, a great weekend!

Valentines Day Weekend

we had a wonderful first valentines day weekend as a married couple.

Friday night we went over to Jessie & Marks for some incredible ribs (recipe is on her blog, which I will link to later on in the post). I tried out a new side dish recipe from Rachel Ray. It was essentially twice baked potatoes with a topping of salami, bread crumbs & parmasean cheese. They were pretty good, but I felt they needed cheddar cheese instead of parmasean. We also got smoked again in Hand & Foot.. this 3rd game is not off to a good start!

Saturday morning we made chocolate chip banana pancakes from this recipe. They were fantastic. yum. Sat. afternoon we decided to go for what we thought would be a scenic drive. We got off I-5 at Marysville and headed along the water up to Stanwood. We pictured it to be a nice coastal drive, but it ended up being a drive through the Tulalip Indian Reservation AND we never saw any water!! We tried to find a geocache in a creepy cemetery, but did not have any luck. We headed back to town and ate a picnic lunch at one of my favorite spots in Edmonds- overlooking the waterfront park. It was delicious! Ben had bought salami, fancy cheese, sparkling cider and of course, 2 tasty cupcakes from Trophy cupcakes. After lunch we headed home and watched a few recorded shows. We went and rented Nights at Rodanthe which I didn't love- too sad. We also made a fairly fancy dinner in the slow cooker. When it came time for hot fudge brownie sundaes.. we just couldn't eat them- too full!

On Sunday, we went to church & then Ben went with Mark and a few other guys to a race track in Redmond to race go carts. Jessie & I went up to the outlets to try to find some baby clothes for James. Sunday night we had our friends Steve & Lindsey over for dinner. We made pumpkin enchiladas from Jessie's blog, which were delicious, seriously- you need to try them.

Monday I took the day off to hang out with Ben who was off for President's Day. We met up with Courtney after lunch and went to hid our first geocache! We thought we found a great spot .. but later that night, we received this email:

"This cache appears to be placed close to a railroad track. It is a Federal offense to place an object like a Geocache near an active rail line. A Geocacher has been arrested, jailed, had to go to court and paid a large fine for placing a cache near an active railroad line. The local bomb squad destroyed his cache. If this is an active line, even if it is only used infrequently, this cache must be moved or removed."

Needles to say, we kind of freaked out and went back to the cache at 11 pm at night on Monday to remove it.. well really Ben ran in the dark over rocks because the tide was in, while I sat in the parking lot among other cars w/ people making out while waiting for a cop to pull in and ask why I am sitting in a parking lot after the park was closed by myself. Ben managed to get the cache and we haven't heard from the FBI .. yet.

All in in all, it was a great weekend!

a delayed blog post because we haven't been taking pictures!

So sorry to our 3 blog readers out there about the lapse in posting! I have been waiting for us to take some pictures so we can liven up our post, but we have been very bad in that department!

We have been getting out and doing stuff though, so I guess i'll get past the no picture thing and hopefully entertain you with my words :)

ok so since babysitting James, what have we been up to you ask? For me, it has been a lot of working. I have unfortunately had to work some part of the last 2 weekends. The first weekend on February, I had to go to our staff "retreat" which was like 5 min. away from our house, and then last weekend I had an all day infant family training. In between working, we have had a game night with friends and have hung out with Jessie & Mark as well on the weekends (we beat them in our 2nd 100,000 point hand & foot game.

I also had my interview to become a Big Sister volunteer with BBBS in Snohomish County. I will go to the volunteer training next month, and will hopefully be matched with a "little" soon!

Last week we picked up my travel bug that was in a race with one of Ben's travel bugs that started over 2 years ago when I was in grad school! I put my bug in a cache in AZ, and Ben put his in WA. His travel bug made it to AZ right after I moved up to WA in June 2007 and mine just arrived!! We probably looked slightly suspicious on a trailhead in S. Everett in the pitch black digging through bushes. Only one couple walked by and asked "is everything ok here?" I had to explain what geocaching was and they responded by saying "well, we've seen weirder things." For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, visit geocaching.com for an explanation. My dad & Ben & I are currently in a race. His bug has made it all the way to Tacoma (he has to make it to Edmonds to win) and our bug is in New Mexico, with supposedly someone taking it to AZ soon (we have to make it to his cache in the middle of nowhere) We'll see who wins!

This weekend should be fun, we're planning to enjoy our first Valentines day weekend as a married couple and enjoy our holiday off of work on Monday. (ok I really don't have the day off, but am taking it off to be home with Ben) We will not be venturing out to eat, as we were trapped last year into a $30 "special" menu. I am going to make a tasty recipe that I found in the last Rachel Ray mag.

We went and saw slumdog millionaire last week- we loved it. It was slightly predictable, but at the same time, unpredictable. The acting was great (especially the little kids).

ok this post is really random.. I'm going to stop now. We promise to take some pics soon! I think the only picture that I have taken in the last 3 weeks is of Ben in this huge turquoise winter hat that he wears while running.. it is quite funny.. maybe i'll put it up
