14 months

I feel like this month Maddie has changed into a toddler. She's not "toddling" around yet, but in every other way she is changing.

She is still sweet, silly and loves people, but she's also turning out to be quite a firecracker! I think when Colter would throw little tantrums when he was this age I would get freaked out and not know what to do.. but now I just think her fits are funny. She mostly gets mad when I don't let her go outside. If I pick her up when she's crawling on a mission, she turns into a sack of snacks and tries so hard to wiggle out of my arms. She can also let out a nice screech.

She is crazy about the outside. She is always speed crawling towards any open door, and any time the closet door is left open, she crawls over, and stands up to get her shoes out. She follows me around the room saying "shoe shoe shoe" trying to put it on by herself. Any time we go into the garage she leans desperately towards her swing. She now knows what the word snack is, so I have to promise a snack in order to get her in her car seat. She loves to shovel rocks, play with balls, swing, ride in the cozy coupe, try to speed crawl down the street, and play at the water table. She's also convinced she knows how to drive the remote control car and will constantly pick up the remote and look at me with her "pretty please" face.

I'm surprised by how much she's talking. It seems like she's adding new words every day. I need to start writing them down, but the ones I remember now are "daddy (her favorite word), baby, Colter, wash,  Harper, Saish, uh-oh, splash, shoe, cheese, bye bye, hello, mama, no no, yes, and kitty." Any time she sees an animal she makes a monkey noise, (ee ah ah ah ah) so I have to look around to see what she is talking about. She's loving the birds that have been visiting our new bird feeder outside, and is totally obsessed with dogs like Colter was.

She is so so so SO busy. She's like a race car zooming all around the house. No matter how much I try to stay on top of what she's doing, she always manages to sneak in some mischief like pulling out tons of kid bowls, sippy cups and snack cups from the cabinet, unrolling toilet paper, standing up on the stool in the bathroom trying to wash her hands, climbing up on the craft table chairs and spilling out all the crayons and markers, and pulling out both magnet man and magnet lady, connect 4, all the puzzles, and the dr kit in about .5 seconds. Needless to say, she has a lot of energy.

This picture is a perfect example of her busyness. She probably made that mess in 2 minutes
Some of her favorite things are playing with play-doh, looking at books (especially Where's Spot, nursery rhymes, and lift a flap books), coloring, finger painting, her animal farm, driving trains through the crossing, rocking and feeding her baby, playing hide and seek and peek a boo, knocking down block towers, bath time, trying to stack blocks and pegs herself, destroying anything Colter is working on, and real life babies. Any time she sees a baby (or someone her age who she thinks is a baby), she will start rocking back and forth saying "shh shh shh" it is the sweetest thing.

She is still taking 2 naps a day.. the first one still about 30 minutes, and the second around 2 hours. She is now sleeping through the night, halleluiah. It only took a couple nights of minimal crying before she started sleeping through. She's normally in bed about 6:30 and sleeps until 6:30ish.

She's pretty social.. Emma and Harper are her favorites for sure.

She's a pretty good eater.. loves bread and dairy the most, but will also eat a lot of different veggies, and some meat.. mainly if she has a fork. She does really well holding her own spoon and can eat a bowl or yogurt or cereal by herself. I'm still nursing her a couple times a day, but we'll be done soon. She seems to tolerate milk pretty well, but doesn't guzzle it like Colter did.

I just love this little lady girl.

What a cute little imp...she gives new meaning to the term busybody! Your description of her little "tantrums" is funny....experience is truly the key to help in raising children.
Love to all,
Dad
