1. Discovery bottles. I saw the idea here. I thought Colter would really like these because he loves water and loves looking at different colors/shapes. I found the bottles at Marshalls and got the other supplies from various places like the dollar store and walmart. He loves these. I think i'm going to keep them in the car for trips. Make sure to hot glue the lids!!
2. Paint in a bag. My first activity fail. Colter was definitely not into this. I might try it again when he's older. I thought he would love squishing the paint around, but he kept throwing the bag off the highchair.
3. colored ice cubes. I thought this idea was brilliant, until I put an ice cube in the bathtub and it turned the bathtub water bright purple. I wasn't sure if it would dye Colter a nice plum shade, so I drained the water and tossed the ice cubes. Maybe I put too many drops in? Who knows, I'm not sure i'll try this again.
4. digging in corn meal. This activity was a total success. I filled a bowl with cornmeal, and then hid some of Colter's toys in it like wooden balls, blocks, etc. He had a blast burying and then finding the toys. I bagged up the corn meal so I can use it again. It did make a massive mess, but didn't take long to clean up.
5. pom poms in a plastic container. This has provided a ton of entertainment for when we go out to eat and for car rides. Colter really likes putting the pom poms in the little holes, and really likes dumping them out!
6. picture magnets. I ordered blank picture magnets off amazon and then put pictures of different family members in them. I used stickers on the outside of the magnets to spell out their names. Colter loves seeing familiar faces, and I love that it is an easy way to talk about family that doesn't live locally.

You make me proud. I played teacher too when I was blessed to stay home with you all.
Keep in mind you have a star student coming from a family who has read to him from day 1, loves him unconditionally and is involved in all aspects of his life but .... I still am coming to you for ideas.
When Colter wins the nobel peace prize, he will give credit of his genious abilities to discovery bottles.
