I had a dr appointment early Tuesday morning. There was no change from the week before, and I could tell my OB was skeptical that she would see me any time soon. I had joked around for weeks how I thought I would go into labor on the 24th, but after the appointment, I was totally prepared for another week or so of being pregnant.
Tuesday night we had a date night and right in the middle of dinner I started having some really intense cramping. I had my membranes stripped at the appointment, so I think that started some prelabor contractions/cramping. I knew it was going to be our last date before Levi arrived, so I didn't want to go home early, so we camped out at my mom's apartment where I took a bath, we ate ice cream and watched tv, which was actually really fun!
The cramping stopped by bed time and Wednesday was a totally normal day. About 9 at night I started having what I felt were the first real contractions I had in the pregnancy. They were timeable and painful, so I thought it was the real deal. The contractions lasted all through the night and conveniently stopped at 530. so disappointing! On the plus side i was able to attend Colters Easter party at school and then Ben met me and the kids in Edmonds for lunch at the beach. I had an occasional contraction . but nothing significant. I took a nap that afternoon and felt great all through dinner time.
Bed time for the kids went great. About 7:30 while Ben was reading books to Colter, I went to the bathroom. I stood up and felt liquid trickle down my legs. I thought it was odd, but because I had never leaked fluid before, I didn't think that was happening. I continued to walk around, and the fluid continued to come. I decided that it was probably was fluid, and that I needed to come up with a plan.
I went into Colter's room to tell Ben and we decided that we should take the kids to my sister's house to sleep because we really wanted my mom to be in the delivery room and knew the birth would likely happen during the night. Colter was really tired so when he heard the news about going to his cousin's house, he started to tear up and get really upset. That was so hard on my mama's heart, that we I went back and forth on taking them. We finally decided to go for it, so once my mom arrived, we loaded up our sleeping kiddos into the car and off the went. By this point my contractions were picking up and I was ready to get to the hospital.
On the drive down, my contractions were about 5-7 minutes apart, but once we go to triage, they quickly intensified to about every 3-4 minutes. I got checked and was only 4 cm, so we decided to walk around for a bit to try to delay the epidural since that tends to slow things down for me.I didn't last long out in the hallway because it was getting late, and I just wanted to get into a room. About an hour later we got to our room and I decided to get into the bath. Oh boy do I love baths! I lasted a while in there and then decided to go ahead with the epidural to try to get some rest.
I got checked again at 2:30 and was still at 4 cm which was a little disappointing. my contractions also started to slow down with the epidural, so they started a little pitocin. Not long after, I started to feel pressure down low, which usually means it's time to push, but I felt like it was too soon since I was just 4 cm. I kept trying to delay being checked, but finally I just asked her. Sure enough, Levi's head was right there and it was time to push!
Ben called my mom and told her and my sister to get down there quick! Right when they got in the room, I started pushing, and it literally took two pushes and out he came. Giving birth never ceases to amaze me. There are so many emotions that come with delivering a baby, but for me, it's mainly an overwhelming amount of joy and awe of the miracle. It's always so wild for me to have a baby inside of me and then all of a sudden, there they are on the outside!
We stayed in the room for a while, letting Levi nurse and getting his measurements. Levi weighed in at 7 lb. 15 oz and was 20 in. long.
We finally got moved to our post partum room, and boy did we score on this one! We had an incredible view of the city, and instead of an old recliner for Ben, he got his own bed. We felt super spoiled, and got right to ordering a ton of food! I think I might be the only one that loves our hospital food (besides my sis).
Thank you Jesus for the blessing of this little miracle into our family.
