Well after years of no real schedule, and unlimited adventures, it was time to start a new season of life.. School! Who knew all the thought that would go into picking a preschool for our Colter.
We started touring and researching schools back in November, and soon found the one we felt would be the best fit for him. We loved Westgate chapels Jesus centered environment, big classrooms, small class sizes, class schedule , and the two day a week option.
We weren't without lots of nerves. We weren't sure how he'd do In a structured environment , away from me, with lots of social demands that can be tricky for him to navigate.
On the first day of school, Colter was ready to go and all smiles. He went right into his class and didn't look back. We were only gone for an hour, but he loved it. I think it helped that maddie really wanted to go to school and it made him feel special that he was the only one that was old enough to go.
We had some support ready to go for more one on one help if he needed it, but we tried one day without any individual support, and soon found out it wasn't the best idea for him just yet. He gets quite overwhelmed at drop off and has a lot of anxiety that's difficult to get rid of. From that day on, we've had his support person, miss Stephanie, there to help him through tricky situations. She's been such a special and helpful person for us and for Colter. The other bonus is that I get picture updates of all the fun stuff he does!
Overall he has totally exceeded our expectations. He has great participation, loves engaging in circle time, and playing outside with his buds. I love seeing all the projects he brings home! He's really thriving and I can't say enough how thankful I am for teacher Kimi and teacher Debi's love for our son.
So here's to a great school year!
