This was the first trip that we didn't stay at Courtney's mom's house, which we missed, but it was also nice to have some space to spread out now that we have two kiddos. Plus, we got the major bonus of having Austin & Kelsey come with us for part of the weekend!
The drive down was awesome.. I laughed because I was so into being prepared for the car trip with toys, dvd player, new cd's etc. Well, Colter ate for the first 30 minutes, napped for 3 hours, then looked out the window for the rest of the car trip since we were conveniently following railroad tracks. The drive home was the same. What a blessing. We literally didn't play with one toy!
Anyway, we got into town Thursday night and went straight to dinner and then went to check out our condo, which was in an awesome location about a 15 minute walk to downtown. I would like to preface the pictures in this post by confirming that Colter now wears his train hat pretty much 99% of the day, except for naps and bedtime. He is a true conductor to the core.
Friday morning started off with some excitment.. we had a full on construction crew right behind the house. Steamrollers, diggers, asphalt layer, you name it! It was like a mighty machines episode.. except you don't normally see the workers peeing in the blackberry bushes and drinking monster energy drinks & eating burgers at 7:30 in the morning.
Friday morning we started out at our favorite park in town.. the park I saw when I was engaged and thought "I'd love to take kids there someday!" So fun to watch Colter compared to the last time we were in Hood River when he wasn't even walking.
After our time at the park, we ventured downtown and went straight to the railway station where they have scenic tours. We're going to try to do one next year, I bet it's gorgeous! We walked around and checked out the different train cars, and spent some time in the train gift shop, where somehow I didn't buy anything.
On Saturday Austin & Kelsey were in town, so we all went to the waterfront beach downtown and enjoyed beautiful weather. Lots of sand play, kite flying, and fun times at the playground. Then we went to our favorite spot downtown, Andrew's pizza. yum!
Saturday afternoon we got to go by ourselves (thank you Austin & Kelsey!!!!)to Courtney's gorgeous wedding. The setting was absolutely incredible.. a farm with the gorge and rolling green hills as the backdrop. Courtney looked absolutely stunning. She was by far the most relaxed bride I have ever seen, which doesn't surprise me at all since she is such a positive person overall. The night went off without a hitch! The reception food was incredible, the decor was so beautiful, and the dancing really got groovin! I'm so thankful to be a part of Courtney's life for about 10 years now! So fun to think about both of us meeting the men we're now married to during the course of our friendship. I got to give a toast which felt super special.. of course I had to follow a guy who got up wearing a chicken suit and then proceeded to jump in a pond after he was done.. you know.. easy act to follow. Overall, it was such a spectacular night.
On Sunday we went to another beach where there is a sandbar that goes super far out into the river. It was fun to actually get in the water and not go numb in about .5 seconds. After the beach we went to a look out where we had an awesome view of Mt. Hood. Sunday night we ventured into town for Mike's ice cream.. another yummy tradition!
We left Monday, but before making the drive home, we stopped at our new favorite park. I told Ben that if this park was in Seattle, we'd be there every day. Check this place out! Railroad tracks, right on the water, and the actual play ground was so awesome! We could have spent all day there.. but left after an hour or so to make the trek home.
What an absolutely perfect time. Always hard to come back to reality after vacation time!!!
