2 1/2

My sweet boy,

You are 2 1/2 today and I really feel this is my favorite stage yet. It does not come without its challenges, but overall, you are a delight to be around. Some of my favorite things about this age are the changes in your play. You are much more content to think up activities by yourself and play on your own. You'll often wander over to the little table, sit down, and start doing your train stencil by yourself. You also like to drive your cars and trains around and around while making noises and talking about them. You typically lay on the floor totally stretched out. You could spend all day outside. You love to play in the "work site" construction box with all your diggers & dump trucks, you also love to be inside your little house making pancakes, "going to work", and playing train.

You love to do things yourself and i'm having to learn to be patient as you work to figure out things by yourself. You totally wash yourself in the shower every night... you use about 3,000 pumps of "baby soap" to make sure your body is nice and clean. Your hair is normally so matted with shampoo that it takes 10 dumps of water to wash it all off. Every time you get out of the shower you run into our room yelling "MOMMY!!" (which by the way melts my heart every time you say mommy). You then ditch your towel, run into my closet, and pull out one of my red scarves to wrap around your body. You come out and always say "well, well, well, what do we have here? A train conductor!" You are somewhat picky about what clothes you want to wear.. if I had 10 Thomas shirts you could wear, then you'd be happy. Every Sunday you want to wear your "conductor" pants to church. Your train hat is rarely not on your head.

I wish I could tape record everything you say and bottle up your little voice forever. I really hope I never forget how sweet it is. The things I write down aren't nearly as funny without your little voice behind it. Like when you run out of children's ministry towards the worship service and yell "I hear MUSIC!" It's just the sweetest thing. My favorite thing you say is  "WOW! That'd be COOL!" Another favorite thing is when you get this really high pitched voice after seeing something you think is funny and you'll say something like "[laughing] Did that boy go down the slide and yell bombs away? That's silly!"

You love to have "family concerts" every day. They always start out the same way.. I get the microphone, Madison get the "bee shaker" and you are on the guitar. I announce that we are a family band here to have a concert and then we always have to start out with a song about Edmonds. Lately, when I'm off doing something you'll take on the annoucning yourself... it's crazy to hear you mimicking me.. you say exactly what I say and will then ask the "crowd" ..."are there any requests out there?!" When you strum the guitar, you open and close your mouth like you're singing, but no words come out. Occasionally you'll shout out an "oh yeah! Pancakes!"

James, Saisha, Jack & Avery are still your favorite friends. Anytime I ask you about who might be somewhere we're going, you always guess James & Saisha. You always get upset when it's time for them to go home. Lately, you'll go up behind them and give them huge hugs.

You have a crazy good memory. You'll remember specific toys at people's houses, where things are all around town.. costco, Chipotle, Starbucks, the library, James' house, the race car grocery store (Whole Foods), the "baby store" (babies r us) and the "train store" (Barnes & Noble). One of our favorite things to do is to go for long walks. You are absolutely obsessed with pushing the cross walk button. You call them "signal lights." We could stand on a corner for every and watch the white walking man light up time and time again. We will usually walk down to the construction site by Whole foods, go ride the car at babies r us and play trains at Barnes & Noble.

You are still totally obsessed with trains. You know a lot of the Thomas characters even though you never watch the show. You love for me to turn on "train songs" (right now your favorite is Johnny Bregar's I've Been Working on the Railroad), and pull up images of amtrak conductors, train signal lights, long freight trains, or freight train engines. You always tell me exactly what to google. You also really like the starfall website and are learning a lot of letters. You know your shapes and colors really well, and many numbers. I think you're going to love school.

I love you my sweet boy. I love that you love to spend your days with me.
