Whidbey Island Surprise

To cap off the summer, my sister suggested to Kelsey and I that we should surprise our hubbies with a weekend away to Whidbey Island. It was so fun to wake up with Ben on Saturday morning and tell him we weren't doing projects all weekend- we were going on an adventure! He had no idea!! It was a perfect perfect weekend with my siblings. I still can't believe that we are all in the same spot! Who would have thought!

After a quick ferry ride, we spent the morning at Double Bluff Beach, digging in the sand, checking out the drift wood forts, and just enjoying the views. After a quick stop for some pie, we headed to Coupeville. In the afternoon we stopped for a cinnamon roll, and then explored Ft. Casey.

The next morning Colter woke up first, so the 3 of us ventured out for a beautiful morning walk. It was one of those memories I hope to keep forever. The sun was just coming up. It was early, so the town was totally quiet. We walked on a long pier, with some shops at the end. It felt like a movie.. almost too perfect, especially when we discovered the only open shop was conveniently a coffee shop at the end of the wharf where we got some incredible hot cocoa. We looked at the boats lit by the beautiful morning sun. The tide was out really far, and seagulls were eating mussels which Colter thought was awesome. As I looked over the pier, I noticed in the shallow water, HUNDREDS of HUGE starfish. They were all sorts of beautiful colors, it was just absolutely breathtaking. I thanked God that he gave us the gift of that morning walk after complaining for so many days about how early Colter wakes up. The movie scene ended when Colter biffed it hardcore and got a bloody nose on the way back to the town.

After everyone was up, we went for an incredible hike along a bluff overlooking the water. It was absolutely fantastic!

Such a fun, easy, weekend away with people I love!!
