Show us your life: How you met your husband

Late last week at Kelly's Korner for Show Us Your Life, the theme is How You Met Your Husband...so here we go!

This story gets complicated, so hopefully you stick with me! Ben and I officially met in the summer of 2003, but the story began earlier in the year. Brittany was from Hemet, CA and went to high school with Ben. She came out to NAU for college and thought that Amber, a girl living on my floor in the dorm-- who I also happened to go to high school with, would be a good match for Ben. I heard bits and pieces about Ben and I didn't think much of it when Ben came out to NAU during his spring break to meet Amber.. I didn't hang out with them while he was here, and I don't know really what happened other than it wasn't a match.

Later on, for some reason all of us girls were hanging out in my room.. I think we were watching this bachelorette find love..

Anyway, for some reason, Brittany added Ben to my IM list.. I can't remember why.. maybe we were trying to trick him? Anyway, that was how it all started.. on good ol AIM.. where Smileygirlbw83 met Snowboy8402



Ben tried to continuously talk to me, but would start every conversation by saying "hey". In my 19 year old mind, I thought he was boring by always saying the same thing, so I never responded. I remember thinking, "if he ever says anything other than 'hey' I'll write back." Towards the end of the summer, Ben was stood up on a date and was feeling down.. enter.

"the roommate"

This roommate was an interesting fellow and was up for a challenge when Ben told him that I never responded. Anyway, the rooommate wrote something that caught my attention.. and it was different than hey, so I responded!

The rest is pretty much history.. Ben and i continued to talk over AIM for a month or so, then we began talking on the phone and then about a month later, Ben drove out to Arizona and stayed for the weekend at my parents house.

We made long distance trips back and forth from San Diego and Flagstaff for a year:

until Ben transferred out to NAU our junior year!
